Srinagar: Launching a scathing attack on Hurriyat Conference for their dubious policy, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Omar Abdullah today said that despite knowing well that Kashmir can never become Pakistan, these people have no moral courage to speak truth to the people. Speaking at a public meeting at Ganderbal after laying the foundation stone of additional accommodation block for Model Higher Secondary School at Ganderbal near here, Omar said that Hurriyat exploited the sentiments of people in the name of freedom and amassed huge wealth by all means to satiate their petty interests. Omar provided Rs.44 lakhs out of local area development fund to upgrade infrastructural facilities in the Government Higher Secondary School, Ganderbal to make it a model High Secondary School in the State. The amount will be spent in two phases. Omar said these people collected huge funds for providing relief to the militancy affected people of the State but swindled this for constructing huge mansions. In this connection, he referred to the construction of Chrar-i-Sharief Shrine and said Hurriyat collected a whopping sum of Rs.500 lakhs for rehabilitating the affected people in the militancy ravaged town but nothing was spent on the ground for this purpose. They didnít spend a penny on reconstruction of the Shrine and it was the present Government which has decided to reconstruct the gutted Khankah at Chrar-i-Sharief involving a cost of Rs.7.50 crore, Omar added. He said separatist elements kept the innocent people in dark and brought only death and destruction in the State. Had these people not abetted terrorism in the State, the innocent people would not have been subjected to colossal miseries, he lamented. He also referred to Syed Ali Shah Geelani and said he furthered the cause of Pakistan but continued to get pensionery benefits as ex MLA from the Government. Income tax records show that the spendings of Geelani are much more than the income shown by the separatist leader. He said the people can by themselves judge where from this money comes. He also made a mention of Syed Salah-ud-Din, saying he instigated thousands of innocent Kashmiri youth for arms training across the border but spared his sons to lead luxurious lives. The people of the State have now realized the real face of these so called sympathizers and sooner or later these elements will have to give an account of their misdeeds before the masses, Omar asserted. The Minister said that National Conference is the only organization which could provide relief to the people and take the State to the path of prosperity and development. He said this organization does not believe in exploiting sentiments and emotions of the people and has a track record of social service since last 5 decades. He called upon the people to gauge the performance of the NC and vote in the forthcoming Assembly elections without any fear or favour. He asked the people to be united to thwart nefarious designs of the enemy which was hell bend to ruin the State.
