UDHAMPUR: Terrorists massacred five civilians including two brothers in three villages of hilly Marmat area in Doda district last night. Police suspected the hand of Hizbul Mujahideen’s Billal group behind the killings, which had lost its three activists in same area about two months back. Terrorists executed the killings at three separate villages including Madiyani, Langdar and Kund, all falling in Marmat area, about 35 kilometers from Doda. Number of the terrorists was stated to be between eight to 10, official sources said. They said the terrorist first struck at village Madiyani in Beota area at 2130 hours last night, entered into the house of one Abdul Gani Beg and dragged out his two sons. They subjected two brothers to questioning for next 10 minutes and then shot both of them dead from point blank range. Deceased brothers have been identified as Jaan Mohd and Faizal Mohd son of Abdul Gani Beg. House of Beg was isolated and located atop a hill in Madiyani. There was no picket of security forces or police in the nearby villages. Same group of terrorists was reported to have trekked about four kilometers to reach village Langdar, also falling in Marmat area, where they gunned down a father and his son at 2350 hours, the source said. The father-son were sleeping in their house, where the terrorists entered after breaking main door. Victims were Abdul Gani son of Mukhtiar Wani and his son Javed Gani. Both had died on spot. The terrorists then struck in surrounding village of Kund at 0010 hours and killed Nand Lal son of Ram Lal, the sources said, adding after the killing of Nand Lal the terrorists escaped back to their hideouts in upper reaches of Marmat. A message of the massacre was received by Marmat police at 0400 hours today. Police parties from Marmat and Doda police station reached the spot early today. DySP Operations, DySP Headquarters and Station House Officer (SHO) Doda were camping in Marmat to co-ordinate a joint search operation launched by security forces and police to eliminate the terrorists involved in the killings. Search operations were going on in full swing in Beota forests, where according to local people, over 50 terrorists had established their bases. The terrorists belonged to Billal group of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, formed only about six months back. Locals told visiting police officers that Billal Ahmed, a ‘group commander’ of the outfit was himself leading the group of terrorists. Few people had noticed the terrorists sneaking into the house of Abdul Gani at Langdar. However, they didn’t intervene fearing that they too might be killed by the ultras. Billal Ahmed is a local terrorist and had few months back appointed ‘group commander’ of his group, named Billal group of Hizbul Mujahideen. Earlier, entire Marmat area was controlled by Shakeel Ansari group of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit but due to increased pressure of army and STF to capture or eliminate Shakeel Ansari, the latter had started lying low and assigned his area of operation to Billal Ahmed, the sources said. According to sources, two terrorists, who happened to be close confidants of Billal, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Madiyani two months back. The terrorists suspected that two brothers Jaan Mohd and Faizal Mohd had informed security forces about presence of their associates in Madiyani, which led to their killings, they said. Sources, however, denied that the two brothers had anything to do with the terrorists’ killing in Madiyani saying that operation was purely based on information supplied by the Intelligence agencies. ''The terrorists are known for taking the pretext of informers for settling their personal scores'', they said. Meanwhile, bodies of four victims were buried this evening in their respective villages while Nand Lal was cremated after arrival of medical teams, which conducted the post-mortem.
