Eight terrorists killed near Vaishnodevi

Jammu: In the second anti-insurgency operation near the Vaishnodevi shrine in two weeks, security forces on Friday gunned down five militants belonging to Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit, in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police and other security personnel surrounded a hideout of the militants in the forest area of Gobian, seven km behind Trikuta hills where the shrine is located, setting off an encounter this afternoon in which five militants of LeT were killed and one policeman injured, director general of police A.K. Suri said in Jammu. There was no danger to pilgrims of Vaishnovdevi shrine which is located on north-east of the Trikuta hills and is about 25-30 kms by road from the encounter site, Suri said. Five AK- 47 rifles, one universal machine gun, one pistol, two radio sets, three diaries were among the articles seized from the bodies of the militants.
