14 hardcore terrorists shot dead in Rajouri

Jammu: Army today thwarted two infiltration attempts in Keri and Sunderbani sectors of Rajouri district killing a total of 11 intruders while three other terrorists were killed in general areas of Surankote and Marmat. A JCO also lost his life in one of the operations while two other jawans were injured. A Defence spokesman said the alert troops of army eliminated eight hardcore terrorists as soon as they infiltrated into the Indian territory breaching the Line of Control (LoC) in Keri sector of Rajouri district this morning. Entire group of eight was killed in one and a half hour long operation, the spokesman said, adding that JCO Surinder Singh also attained martyrdom in the encounter. Two jawans sustained injuries. Bodies of all eight terrorists have been recovered from the scene of encounter. They hadnít been identified so far. Another intrusion bid was foiled by the army personnel on the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district in wee hours of this morning. Three terrorists were killed in the operation that lasted just 20 minutes. Reports said that three to four other terrorists fled back to Pakistan during the exchange of firing. Recoveries made from the terrorists killed in Keri and Sunderbani included 14 AK rifles, two pistols, 22 hand-rifle grenades, 16 AK magazines, four pistol magazines, 488 AK rounds, 60 pistol rounds and three radio sets. The spokesman said some more recoveries were also expected and for that the searches were going on in Keri and Sunderbani sectors. Meanwhile, two Pakistani terrorists of Tehreek Jehad Islami (TJI) were gunned down by police and army in an encounter at village Sailan Marhot in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district this evening. A joint operation was carried out by Poonch police and army at village Sailan this evening after reports indicating presence of the terrorists was received, police sources said. They said a group of five to seven terrorists had taken shelter in an abandoned house. On seeing approaching columns of the security personnel, the terrorists deserted their hideout and fled towards a surrounding forest area. Troops chased the fleeing ultras and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gun-battle. In the encounter, army and police jawans gunned down two terrorists. Other ultras managed to escape. However, the security jawans continued a manhunt to eliminate the other terrorists but they remained untraced till tonight. Sources said an operation to trace the remaining terrorists would be resumed tomorrow morning. Of two slain terrorists, one has been identified as Alamjeb, a Pakistani and an Ďarea commanderí of TJI for Surankote. Identity of his associate hadnít been established so far. Two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, two hand grenades, one rifle grenade, one radio set and some documents were recovered from the scene of encounter, the terrorists said. No casualties were reported on the security forces side during the encounter. According to sources, the terrorists, who escaped during the encounter, were also Pakistanis. Alamjeb was operating in Surankote for last more than five months and was involved in a number of attacks on the security forces and IED explosions. Another terrorist was shot dead by army in Marmat, Doda this evening, the Defence spokesman said.
