5 top terrorists gunned down in Udhampur, Poonch

Jammu: Five terrorists were gunned down by the security forces while two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were injured in three separate encounters in Udhampur and Poonch districts today. Official sources said a patrol party of BSF’s 12 battalion was ambushed by a group of terrorists at village Bassa Kanga in Mahore tehsil of Udhampur early today. Two BSF jawans identified as Anil Chowdhary and Dey Jaidev were injured in the ambush. Injured jawans were evacuated from the firing site and airlifted to Command Hospital in Udhampur. Following ambush, enforcement of BSF and Special Task Force (STF) were rushed to Bassa Kanga to track down the terrorists. A contact with the terrorists was established at 1600 hours today and during the one hour long encounter, two terrorists were killed. Identity of the slain terrorists hasn’t been established so far. One of them was believed to be the foreign mercenary. Two AK rifles, one pistol, three AK magazines and two grenades were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists. Another encounter took place between the terrorists and a joint team of STF and BSF at Duksar nullah, about 10 kms from Sangaldan in Gool area of Udhampur early this morning. One terrorist was killed in the encounter, SP Reasi Satish Khandayray said. Slain terrorist has been identified as Nazir Ahmed alias Nikka son of Sultan Mughal, a resident of Hill Sumba in Gool. Nikka was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit. One AK rifle with two magazines were recovered from him. Nikka was active in Gool area for the last two years and was wanted in a series of subversive activities. Two associates of Nikka, who too were local terrorists, managed to escape during the exchange of firing and were being chased by the STF and BSF personnel. Meanwhile, army gunned down two terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit during a search operation at village Rajara near Hari Dodi in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district this evening. The terrorists were killed during about 40 minutes operation in which a hideout of the terrorists was destroyed. Two AK rifles with ammunition were recovered from the hideout, the sources said. Slain terrorists were believed to be foreign mercenaries and activists of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit. However, their identity has not been established so far. No casualties were reported on army side during the operation. STF Doda carried out a massive search operation in hilly Marwah and Warwan areas of Kishtwar tehsil in Doda district. Searches continued for two days. SP Doda Vijay Singh Samyal said the STF teams recovered three sophisticated communication sets during the searches. The sets were being used by the terrorists to converse with their commanders. The terrorists using the communication sets remained untraced.
