Srinagar: Two militants were on Sunday holed up inside a mosque as police assisted by army cordoned off a village in Baramulla district of north Kashmir to flush out militants, official sources said. The special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir police and army ringed village Tarzoo in Sopore, some 55 km from Srinagar, following specific information about the presence of militants there. As security forces sealed all escape routes and launched house-to-house searches, two militants trapped in the village took shelter inside a mosque near Ambarpora locality, the sources said. Security forces immediately cordoned off the place of worship. They said all efforts were on to clear the mosque and senior villagers were asked to persuade the holed up militants to surrender. However, the militants turned down the surrender offer and took up positions inside the mosque, the sources said. They said some shots were heard but it was not immediately known whether an encounter had broken out between holed up militants and security forces.
