Ultras blow up TV transmitter in Kashmir

Srinagar: A mobile television transmitter was damaged when militants today attacked Doordarshan''s outdoor broadcasting van with grenades and rockets in Bandipora area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, official sources said. In the first incident of violence in the state on the republic day celebration this year, a group of heavily armed militants lobbed a number of grenades and fired rockets at about 3 am at the OB van that contained the low power transmitter at Garoora in Bandipora, some 60 kms from here, the sources said. Transmission of Doordarshan programmes in the Bandipora area were disrupted following the incident.
