Major, militant killed in Doda encounter

JAMMU: An Army major and an ultra were killed and two securitymen injured in an encounter in Doda district in Jammu where security forces recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and explosives since Wednesday evening, an official spokesman said here on Thursday.A militant was killed in an encounter between ultras and securitymen at Manda village in Doda district, the spokesman said adding a major of Rashtriya Rifles also lost his life while two other security personnel were injured.The slain militant was identified as Tanveer Ahmed alias Abu Talah, the spokesman said adding the other militants managed to escaped.The house in which militants had taken shelter was also damaged in the crossfire.The injured securitymen were later shifted to Military Hospital in Udhampur district, the spokesman said, adding a search was continuing in the area.Meanwhile, reports from Rajouri district said security forces, during search operations, busted a militant hideout in Pargali area and recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and explosives.One AK magazine with 308 rounds, 123 pistol rounds, seven rifle grenades, three hand grenades and 1.5 kgs of RDX were recovered from the hideout, sources said.
