Militants maligning holy concept of Islam: Suhrawardy

DODA: The Minister of State for Home, Mr. Khalid Najeeb Sohrawardy has said that Islam preaches compassion, religious tolerance, love for humanity and peaceful co-existence and those spilling blood of innocents on its name are doing no good service to this great religion. Mr. Sohrawardy, who was on one-day tour of Kishtwar, Gandoh and other parts of the district was speaking at a public meeting at Bhadarwah yesterday. He said that Jehad in Islam has its own broad termed significance but its wrong interpretation by some vested interests has maligned the concept of Islam. The Minister said that lofty slogans have bore no fruits despite lapse of over 12 years and added that futility of such slogans needs to be admitted in the fast changing global scenario. He said that people irrespective of caste and creed need to come forward in further strengthening the bonds of communal harmony and mutual brotherhood for paving the way for ameliorating the socio-economic lot of the people, especially poor and the needy. The Minister cautioned the people to be vigilant against vested interests who are exploiting religious and regional sentiments of the people for their selfish ends. Earlier, while addressing a public meeting at Gandoh (Bhalesa), the Minister said that militants were afflicting miseries on innocents which was contrary to the tenets of Islam and Jehad. He assured that strict instructions stand already passed on the security forces for protection of human rights and to ensure that no innocent was harmed while their battle against militancy. He said that any one found guilty shall be dealt under law.
