Operation on as 19 militants killed in Jammu

Poonch: Troops today killed 19 militants, six of them belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen and rest to Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HUJI) and Tehrik-e- Jehad outfits in three separate encounters in Mendhar and Mandi sectors of Poonch district. With this, the security forces and police have killed 58 militants in Poonch in the last one week. Giving details, official sources said that eight militants were killed during an operation launched by troops from three sides in lower Krishna Ghati area of Mendhar sector. The operation was still on when reports last came in. Sources said the slain militants belonged to a group of 15 which had crossed from the Line of Control near Salotari two days ago with huge quantities of arms and ammunition. The encounter started when militants opened fire on the troops. The latter immediately retaliated and in the heavy exchange of fire, two militants were killed by afternoon. Later, six more militants were gunned down , while their other accomplice were reported to be trapped inside the cordon.
