Srinagar: The All Party’s Hurriyat Conference today condemned the US air strikes on Afghanistan as “acts of terrorism”. At a press conference in Rajbagh, the Hurriyat headquarters, here this morning, the senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani said if the 11 September attacks on Washington and New York were terrorist attacks, the air- strikes by US and UK forces were also “acts of terrorism’’. Mr Geelani said America was misusing its superpower status by attacking one of the poorest countries of the world. He appealed to the USA to restraint from further destruction. He said as the Kashmiris were victims of Indian excesses they could well understand the plight of the Afghans who were suffering at the hands of a superpower. Pleading Osama bin Laden’s innocence, the Hurriyat leader said the USA should have given bin Laden an opportunity to clear allegations against him. “However, Osama was never given such a chance nor did America accept the Taliban’s suggestions,” he said, adding that the USA acted as the complainant and the judge. He said Pakistan has its own compulsions in supporting the USA in its war against bin Laden.
