Four ultras killed, bridge blown up in Kashmir

Srinagar: Four militants were among five people killed in Kashmir where militants blew up a wooden bridge and attacked a security picket since Tuesday night, official sources said on Wednesday. Four unidentified militants were killed in an operation by security forces at Magam in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Wednesday. A raid was launched in the area following information about presence of militants there. As troops moved in for house-to-house searches, militants who were hiding opened heavy fire, sources said. In another incident, militants shot dead an alleged informer of security forces inside his house at Adipora in Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Tuesday night. Militants also exploded two powerful IEDs under a wooden bridge at Kuligam in frontier district of Kupwara on Tuesday night causing extensive damage to the vital road link. Militants hurled two rifle grenades towards a security picket at Eidgah in downtown Srinagar early on Wednesday, but no one was hurt in the attack, sources said. Heavy gunfire also rocked Kanipora-Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar in the early hours of Wednesday.
