AJK police detain JKLF chief

ISLAMABAD: Police of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday arrested the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief for violation of a ban imposed on him from entering in Kotli, police and party officials said.President JKLF Amanullah Khan was taken into custody in Kotli where he had gone to meet party leaders and address a public rally. Amanullah had arrived in Kotli from Islamabad to meet his supporters who had been detained in a local prison. But police denied him permission to visit the jail and arrested him while he was addressing a rally, the party said.The JKLF has boycotted the state assembly elections scheduled this week after the local election commission rejected its candidates" nomination papers. The papers were rejected because JKLF candidates refused to submit a mandatory declaration that they support the state's accession to Pakistan. The elections for the 48-seat legislative assembly in Azad Kashmir are scheduled for July 5.
