Srinagar: The United Jehad Council (UGC), a conglomerate of several militant organisations, on Wednesday supported former Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani's Friday protest call over the "desecration of a mosque in Shangus and other security excesses". A spokesperson of the Hizbul Mujahideen, which is a constituent of the UGC, while supporting the Geelani's call said its chairman Syed Salah-ud-Din has asked people to extend total support to the call. Our request to Kashmiris is that they should vehemently support the call of Geelani, the spokesperson quoted Salah-ud-Din as having said at a meet. Geelani has on Tuesday expressed concern over the pro-active policy adopted by India in Kashmir and condemned the grenade attack at Charar-e-Sharief and desecration of mosque at Shopian. The UJC chairman also asked Kashmiris living on both sides of the border to protest and "unmask India's anti-Islamic policy on Kashmir", he said.
