Omar Abdullah escapes attempt on his life

Srinagar: Union Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Omar Abdullah on Tuesday survived a bid on his life while attending at a college function. Police sources say two students suffered minor injuries. Minutes after Omar had left the women's college, Nawa Kadal in downtown Srinagar, where he was presiding over a function, three grenades landed near the spot one hitting the roof injuring two girls. Hizul Mujahideen has claimed the responsibility for the attack. On Monday, the outfit detonated an IED at Sangrama, Baramulla, killing an Army officer and injuring seven soldiers including a Major. Police said three grenades landed at the spot when his function had concluded. Omar and other guests had left when the attack came.
