SRINAGAR: Police arrested on Monday a woman suspected of being a militant with the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which has in recent months attacked Indian forces in Kashmir. The arrest was the first of a woman allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar, which has rejected a unilateral ceasefire offered by the Centre in its part of Kashmir, police said. Police identified the suspect as Mehbooba and said she was caught with a homemade bomb, hand grenades, four rifles and other firearms. Meanwhile, militants on Monday shot dead a policewoman near the town of Chadoora, 27 kms from Srinagar, police said. The killing of the unnamed officer was the first known attack on a female member of the beleaguered police department in the state in recent years. (AFP)
