Two NC leaders shot dead in Kashmir

Srinagar: Militants today gunned down two leaders of ruling National Conference (NC) in separate attacks in Kashmir Valley, official sources said here. National Conference block president for Beerwah, Hajighulam Mohammad was shot dead by militants at his village at Kundipora in Badgam district of central Kashmir soon after he returned from a local mosque after offering Friday prayers, the sources said. The sources said his son, who is also an NC activist, was injured in the militant firing and was hospitalised. Earlier in the day, unidentified militants shot dead NC block president from Pampore, Ghulam Mohammad Baba outside a mosque shortly before Friday prayers, the sources said. The sources said Baba was fired upon by militants from point blank range at Drungbal in Pulwama district of south Kashmir where he had gone to offer Friday prayers. No militant outfit has owned responsibility for the two incidents, so far. A civilian was seriously injured when he was caught in across-fire between militants and Army at Gund-Machil of Kupwara district in north Kashmir late last night. Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police arrested five persons for questioning during late night raids at Dalgate and Chanipora areas of Srinagar, the sources said.
