Ceasefire: defence attaches visit LoC

Jammu: Headed by Brig S.M.A. Lee of the United Kingdom, defence attaches from 23 countries, including the United States, visited forward areas of the state to assess the situation on the Line of Control, especially after the declaration of unilateral ceasefire by Centre. Pointing out the areas, including Jammu sector, Rajouri and Poonch, Defence sources said they interacted with the Army officers and jawans and reviewed the situation on the border. The attaches, who arrived here on a two-day visit , belonged to UK, USA, Russia, Austraila, Bangladesh, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Turkey and Ukraine. The attaches later visited Lt Gen J.B.S. Yadava, commander of the Nagrota Corps headquarters here today. The corps commander briefed them about the situation arising out of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, as also the steps being taken by security forces to counter it and protect lives and properties of civilians.
