5 militants among 9 killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Nine people, including five militants and a jawan, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where five persons were injured in a grenade explosion inside a bus Friday afternoon. Three militants, including self-styled district commander of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Hyder Hussain, and a jawan were killed in an encounter between ultras and security forces at village Badhal-Kanthol in Rajouri district on Friday, an official spokesman said. Security forces shot dead a foreign militant at village Sabzi in Rajouri on Thursday night, he said. A rifle, two grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED) were recovered from the slain militant. Militants shot dead two persons, including a woman, at village Kushghari in Doda district and another woman at Tralika-Mahore in Udhampur district late Thursday night, he said. Hizbul militant Ghulam Mohiuddin Teli, injured in an encounter with security forces at Tutilund in Kupwara district on Saturday last, succumbed to injuries on Friday, he said. Militants lobbed a grenade inside a bus at village Dooru in Anantnag district Friday afternoon injuring five persons. The injured were admitted to a hospital where the condition of three of them was stated to be serious, the spokesman said. Police recovered a rocket projectile gun with a rocket, two rocket boosters, two universal machine guns, 53 rounds of ammunition, 10 UMG belts, five cartridges, a pistol magazine 120 pistol rounds, 11 detonators and two wireless sets from Gulabgarh area in Udhampur district on Thursday, he said.
