New Delhi: FORMER PAKISTANI Army chief, General Jahangir Karamat, said here today that India should accept the United States in the role of mediator in the Kashmir conflict. Speaking at the third Asian Security Conference, organised by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), General Karamat asked the Indian government not to avoid 'opportunities'. General Karamat said the Kargil war was the result of an 'unpredictable situation' in Kashmir, but urged India to see the 'plus point' in it. 'Kargil proved that even if the two countries possess nuclear weapons, there could be limited wars.' Defence Minister George Fernandes could not attend the inauguration due to the Gujarat earthquake.
