Jammu: Altogether 1,306 militants, including 363 mercenaries, have been killed in the stepped up anti-militancy co-operations in Jammu and Kashmir since January this year, highest in the last seven years. An official spokesman said here today that during the corresponding period last year, 889 militants were killed. Militants killing have registered nearly 47 percent increase compared to last year. Greater success has been achieved in these operations in the last three months when 470 militants were eliminated by the security forces and the J & K police. October alone accounted for 183 causalities, highest ever in a single month. This is mainly due to increased flow of specific information about the militants movements, mostly given by the locals who are fed up with militant violence, he said. Another notable feature is the killing of the highest number of foreign mercenaries this year.
