Islamabad: Russia on Tuesday called for resumption of Indo-Pak talks and expressed readiness to help resolve the long-standing problem of Kashmir. After meeting Pakistan''s chief executive, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, the Russian president''s special envoy, Sergey Yastrzhembsky, said, ''Our country believes that the Kashmir issue should be settled in accordance with Shimla accord and Lahore declaration''. This is the first time that Russia has openly declared its willingness to lend a helping hand to Pakistan and India to solve the Kashmir issue. It is believed that Pakistan would ask Russia to play a role for the settlement of Kashmir issue during President Vladimir Putin''s visit to New Delhi in the first week of October. Yastrzhembsky confirmed that the Russian president would also visit Pakistan in response to an invitation by Gen. Musharraf.
