Strategy For Completing Census Operation Finalised

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government has worked out a strategy to go ahead with the second and final phase of census operations at all costs. The enumerators and other related staff would be provided security for smooth and expeditious operations. Decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting held here this afternoon to review the census operations in the State. The Chief Secretary, Mr Ashok Jaitly chaired. If need be, the time limit for the operations would be extended as per provisions of the census laws. Though major work in this regard has been accomplished, the remaining work would be completed so as to get necessary data vital for planning and welfare strategy for various areas. While the operations are smoothly going on in Jammu and Ladakh regions, the work has also commenced in several parts of the Kashmir valley. The Government has taken a serious view of the lackadaisical response from some of the enumerators. Stressing for drawing an action plan for expeditious completion of census operations in all parts of the State, the Chief Secretary assured of necessary logistic support and security to the staff associated with census. Necessary instructions have been issued to Deputy Commissioners for completing the work. The Director General of Police, Mr. Gurbachan Jagat, Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr. J. A. Khan, Principal Secretary, Home, Mr. C. Phunsog, Additional Director General of Police, Security, Mr. A. K. Suri, Commissioner-Secretary, General Administration, Mr. Naved Masood, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. K. A. Ganai and Director Census, Mr. Feroz Ahmed were among those participated in the meeting.
