India, Pak should have ''fresh thinking'' on Kashmir
23 June 2000
New Delhi: The United States advocated that Pakistan and India have an open mind and ''fresh thinking'' to resolve the protracted Kashmir problem and put back on track the derailed Lahore peace process. ''I don''t think difficult problems get solved in haste. There is need for patience, determination and openness to fresh thinking,'' US Ambassador to India Richard Fceleste told reporters at the foreign correspondents'' club here. Asked how Washington viewed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah''s proposal for greater autonomy to his state and the on-going debate in the state assembly on the issue, the US envoy said ''if I start evaluating every Chief Minister''s statement, I will be in trouble in two minutes.''
