Militant on extortion spree in Rajouri

Rajouri: Militants looted cash and jewellery from four houses at village Targain in Kandi area last night. Militants also beat-up innocent people in the village.
A Defence spokesman said a group of unidentified militants attacked village Targain at 2030 hours and resorted to extortions, beating of men and molestation of women.
Militants looted Rs 25,000 from the house of Faqir Shah S/o Vilayat Shah, Rs 21,500 from Anwar Shah S/o Gazi Shah, Rs 5100 from Shamsudin S/o Ghulam Shah and Rs 5500 and jewellery from the house of Abdullah S/o Alladin.
He said the militants remained in the village from 2030 hours to 0100 hours and terrorised the people by reckless bashing and threatened them of dire consequences if they report the matter to police or security forces.
In the morning, security and police personnel reached the village and started searches. Efforts were on to track down the militants and recover the looted amount from their possession.
The spokesman said this was second incident during last two days when the militants resorted to extortions and atrocities on women in this border district. Militants had taken away Rs 20,000 from the house of Bashir Ahmed at village Kewal after wounding his brother and sister the other day.
Such low level crimes against helpless and innocent civilians is a clear indication of militantsí desperation and hooliganism, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a youth Mohd Hussain S/o Besham Din was injured in Pak shelling at village Chaprian in Sawjian area last night. The injured has been shifted to sub district hospital in Mandi in critical condition.
