ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz has said he will have a meeting in New York with his Indian counterpart Jaswant Singh who, however, said no such meeting has been lined up.

Aziz told the largest-circulated Urdu daily Jung shortly before leaving for New York to attend the UN General Assembly session that he would hold important consultations with Singh to resume Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two countries to resolve all outstanding issues, including Kashmir, as per the Lahore declaration and in the light of Washington Accord.

He said he would also meet Singh at the SAARC Foreign Ministers’ meeting on September 28 on the sidelines of UNGA.

Jaswant Singh, when asked by reporters in New Delhi if he would be meeting Aziz in New York, said there was no request from the Pakistani Foreign Minister for this and, therefore, such a meeting had not been lined up.

There hasn’t been a request from my distinguished counterpart as yet and, therefore, it is not on line, Singh, who will lead the Indian delegation at the UN General Assembly, said just before emplaning for New York.
