Deliberation of NC office-bearers/workers meeting

As scheduled a meeting of the Zonal Presidents, Block Presidents of NC was held at party headquarter Nawai Subah complex on Sept. 1, 1997.

SRINAGAR: As scheduled a meeting (120/130) of the Zonal Presidents, Block Presidents of NC was held at party headquarter Nawai Subah complex on Sept. 1, 1997. It was presided over by Sheikh Nazir Ahmed. Gen.Secy of the party. The participation of Distt. Anantnag and Pulwama was minimal because of floods in these two districts.

Sheikh Nazir in this inaugural address set the agenda for the meeting i.e. observance of the death anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah (Sept. 8, 1997). He asked the participants to give their free and frank views about the programme. In case the participants felt confidant, the party could organise a very big show, then they should come out openly to express their views.

Ab. Ahad Vakil - Revenne Minister observed that the occasion should be utilised to organise a big public show so that the `enemies' realise the strength of the party. He reiterated party's commitment to autonomy and said that real autonomy would find that Pakistan has no friend here.

Ch. Mohd. Ramzan - Forest Minister assured that Distt. Kupwara would send a large number of workers for any proposed meeting. He regretted that even after one years NC Govt., NC workers of his Distt. were being killed on a regular basis.

Dr. Mustafa Kamal - Health Minister said that NC workers from his constituency (Tangmarg) would participate in large numbers to revive old NC spirit. He added that NC workers should wear Red (party) caps on this occasion.

Al. Mohd. Sagar MOS(Home) advised the party men to remain vigilant as Pakistan was not keeping quiet and would make all efforts to destroy NC as this party was a hurdle for it.

Bashir Ahmed Nengroo MOS (Pulwama) said that NC was slowly regaining past glory as the people had brought destruction only. He added that the floods in Anantnag and Pulwama would affect the mass participation of workers from these two districts.

Mubarak Gul MLA (Srinagar) said that despite large-scale problems, the participation of workers from Srinagar would be sizeable.

Gh. Nabi Shaheen (YNC) assured the partymen that the youth would form the bulk of crowd on the occasion of Sheikh's death anniversary. He urged the party to force the Govt. to take hard steps to eradicate unemployment as it had the potential of reviving militancy.

Other important speakers including Mohd. Akbar Lone (Zonal Secy, Sonawari), Kafi-ul-Rehman, MLA(Karnag) Ab. Gani Nageem, MLA Khan Sahib and P.L Handoo-Law Minister.

P.L. Handoo admitted that NC was a pale shadow of the past. He referred to glorious period of NC when Sheikh was alive. He made a fervent appeal to make the party of people. He wanted the rank and file of the party to be given a rightful place.

All the speakers praised the leadership and contribution of Late Sheikh Abdullah.

Concluding the meeting, Sheikh Nazir, Gen. Secy declared that provincial level function would be held at Jammu (Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan). While as the main function on 8th Sept. would be held at Sheikh's Mazaar at 0800 hrs. followed by a public meeting at the same venue at 1100 hrs. He urged the MLAs, MLCs, Block Presidents to make arrangements for the transportation of workers to Srinagar and back in vehicles carrying party flags and banners. Block presidents were directed to distribute posters giving out the party programme from party headquarters, for dissemination in their respective areas. He disclosed that the party leaders (Dr. Farooq) had received inclination form some Central leaders and regional leaders expressing keenness to pay tributes to Sheikh Abdullah on this occasion. He added that Dr. Farooq would decide on this issue keeping in view the overall situation in the state.
