Hurriyat strike fails to evoke response in J&K

SRINAGAR: For the first time in many years, a general strike called by the Hurriyat Conference in response to the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister Mr. I K Gujral today failed to evoke response in the Kashmir Valley.

The dawn-to dusk strike sponsored by the Hurriyat Conference virtually evoked "no response" in the Vallev. Transport remained unaffected while shops and business establishment are closed on Sunday.

The Prime Minister visited the Valley to inaugurate an international conference on investment in Jammu and Kashmir being organised jointly by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and 1ndustry and the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
