Jammu: Chief of Laskar-I-Toiba Abu Zabair, who was in charge of militant activities in the border district of Poonch and Rajouri, was killed by the army in Surankot area of Poonch last night.
An army spokesman said on specific information, troops of the Special Force Group cordoned off Shail village in Surankot area. In the encounter which lasted 30 minutes, the top Afghani national militant was killed. He was responsible for killing at least nine civilians in the twin border districts during the past six months.
The spokesman said the Abu Zubair was appointed chief of the militants by Lt. Col. Syed, ISI officer in Kotli in occupied Kashmir.
